The Metadata API Is SEO's Least Glamorous Fix
Date Published

A missing canonical tag, an Open Graph image that never got set, a title that's identical across fifty pages because a template forgot to interpolate it — none of these are hard problems. They're just easy to skip, because nothing in local development ever shows you what a shared link actually looks like.
Centralizing this generation, rather than hand-writing meta tags per page, is less about any individual tag and more about making the omission visible: a missing field in a typed metadata object is a gap you can see in the code, not a silent absence in rendered HTML nobody's looking at.
None of this replaces actual content strategy — good metadata describing a thin page is still a thin page. It just removes the class of SEO bugs that have nothing to do with content quality and everything to do with a template that quietly forgot a field.
