Preview Deployments Are the Real Design Review

Date Published

An open laptop sits on a desk surrounded by hand-drawn design sketches, blueprints, and drafting tools including a caliper and pencils

Static sites are unusually well suited to preview deployments, since a branch is just another static export that can be built and hosted independently of production — no shared database state to worry about, no risk of a preview touching real data.

What that unlocks is a genuinely different review process: a designer or stakeholder can click through the actual change on an actual device, rather than trusting a description of it. Problems that only show up at a specific viewport width, or only on a slow connection, or only after a specific interaction, get caught before merge instead of after launch.

The habit that makes this actually pay off is treating the preview link as the default artifact for review — not an occasional nice-to-have, but the thing a reviewer opens first, before they open the diff.
