Core Web Vitals Reward Boring Decisions

Largest Contentful Paint gets blamed on the framework when the real cause is often a hero image with no explicit dimensions, causing layout shift the moment it loads. Interaction latency gets blamed on React when the real cause is a third-party script blocking the main thread for a few hundred milliseconds nobody profiled.

The pattern across most real audits is the same: the fix is rarely a rewrite. It's usually one specific, boring thing — reserve the image's aspect ratio, defer the script that doesn't need to run immediately, ship less JavaScript to a route that didn't need most of what it was importing.

The discipline that actually holds these metrics steady over time is smaller than teams expect: measure the real page regularly, and treat any regression as worth finding the specific cause of, rather than accepting a slow, general decline as the cost of shipping features.
